Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips, has opened up about his detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over tax evasion charges.
He gave a detailed account of his experience in the custody of the EFCC, revealing that investigations concluded that he was not involved in any fraudulent activities.
Oladips’ arrest dates back to November 2024, when EFCC officials reportedly raided his estate around 3am and detained him and other residents on suspicion of fraud. In a recent interview with Hip TV, the artist clarified that his detention was actually related to unpaid taxes and not to any criminal offense.
“It happened to me in Nigeria because it was just an ordinary night and the EFCC came into my estate. I mean, it was a big estate and they were just going door to door arresting people. I was in my house. It was about 3 o’clock in the morning.
“I saw it within the real estate group that EFCC is a part of. I assure you, I was on my bed with my phone pressed because it was none of my business. I am not campaigning because I don’t do fraud, I don’t do Yahoo. Anyone who commits fraud will run away.
“Next, they broke my kitchen door and entered my house and asked for my phone and laptop. I only use two phones and I don’t have a laptop. So they collected my phones and investigated and realized I was not committing fraud. When they couldn’t find anything to stop me, that’s when one of their big guys came out and asked me if I paid taxes? That’s how they locked me up for not paying taxes”, he narrated.
