    • As of April 6, 2025, the Nigerian Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed 674 LASSA fever cases and 127 deaths in 18 states.

    • Taraba and Ondo recorded the highest death toll, while the virus mainly affected people aged 21 to 30, with nearly equal gender distribution.

As of April 6, 2025, the Nigerian Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) reported 674 confirmed cases and 127 deaths from LASSA fever.

The data, released in its latest situation report, shows that 93 local government areas are affected by the virus outbreak, with current case mortality rates slightly higher than the 2024 figures in the same period.

According to the report, Talaba state has the highest death toll (31), followed by Ondo (26) and Edo (17). Other states that died include Bauchi, Eboni, Gombe and Kogi.

“The number of newly confirmed cases reported in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, Ebonyi and Gombe increased slightly in Week 14,” the NCDC noted.

The NCDC stressed that 71% of all confirmed cases originated from three states Ondo, Bauchi and Edo.

The agency also announced that it activated the National Lassa Fever Multi-Partner Event Management System to coordinate national response activities. Fortunately, during the latest reporting week, no new health care workers were infected.
