Eze Gabriel, a member of the Enugu State Assembly, representing the ISI-UZO constituency, has officially defected from the Labor Party (LP) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Eze, who was elected under the LP platform during the 2023 election, announced his decision at a plenary meeting on Tuesday, April 8.
The speaker of Uche Ugwu reads his defector on the floor. In the letter, Eze described his decision as sad, but necessary, citing his so-called irreconcilable division and the ongoing crisis that plagued the party at the national and state levels.
Eze lamented that the record, once regarded as a symbol of progressive ideals and hope, has become a party drowned out by internal discord, which he said seriously hindered its ability to meet voter expectations. He noted that the ongoing leadership conflict between Julius Abure and Nenadi Usman at the national level, as well as the dispute between Kingsley Ugwu and Casmir Agbo of Nguzhou, are key examples of the party’s growing disunity.
He is optimistic that his move to PDP will provide a more stable and supportive platform through which he can continue to contribute to the development of the Enugu country. Eze also expressed his gratitude to supporters for their understanding and continued support.
