- Although the Supreme Court affirmed the legality of President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 electoral victory, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has publicly questioned the legality of the victory.
- While recognizing Tinubu as the current president, Abaribe expressed his belief that public dissatisfaction with economic difficulties will lead to the president’s defeat in 2027.
- He also believes that the recent defections to the APC will ultimately weaken the ruling party and strengthen the opposition.

Despite the Supreme Court confirming the legitimacy of President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential elections, Senator Enyinaya Abaribe (Abyanan) has publicly questioned his victory.
“Tinubu never won the 2023 election, everyone knows that,” Mr Abaribe said in an interview with Channels TV.
While acknowledging Tinubu’s current status, the senator vowed that the opposition would prevail in the next elections. He said, “But we said okay, he’s been declared the winner, no problem. We recognize him as the president, but we’re going to meet him on the ground and I’m going to see how he’s going to piece together what will allow him to win again,” he said.
Abaribe expressed confidence that growing public frustration with the current economic difficulties will be a major factor in the 2027 elections. He predicted the president would lose: “Everybody is going to lose the election, and you’ll see when the time comes. He will lose in 2027 because I know how Nigerians feel out there. “
He also warned the opposition and the masses to prepare: “It’s not going to work because this time everyone is ready. No more announcements at 3:00 in the morning before people wake up. This time, people are ready, we are ready, the masses are even ready.”
On the recent wave of defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Abaribe claimed that these defections would only consolidate problems within the APC to the advantage of the opposition. He commented, “I think it is very good for us in the opposition that these defections are happening. What the APC is doing is solving all the problems it will face. They are in the party now. Ask yourself, in all the states where there are defections, what is happening now?”
