A student of the State College of Nursing, Oke Odekwara has reportedly gone viral after posting a harrowing video narrating a deadly bandit attack near her church.
Her first account, shared on TikTok under the username @quinnabiola, quickly captured the audience’s attention and sparked widespread reactions.
According to the student, she first heard rumors of bandits entering the Oaksong community on September 27.
“I got the news that there were bandits in the community, and I immediately shared the news on our school’s platform,” she said. Although there were no immediate signs of danger, she felt it was important to alert her classmates.
The next morning, she thought things had calmed down and prepared to go to church. “It was Sunday and I thought everything was going to be fine. I got dressed and headed to church, expecting a normal ceremony. But sadly things turned out very differently.” she recalled.
Less than 20 minutes after she arrived, gunfire erupted outside the church. “At 7:45 in the morning, I was sitting in the church. Less than 20 minutes later, shots rang out. They were shooting right in front of our church. We closed the door, but the generator in front was still running,” she explained.
Her church is located at the entrance to the community in a busy development area, which makes the attack particularly shocking. “The gunfire went on for about an hour,” she said.
When the shooting subsided, she and the pastor and his family cautiously walked outside and saw a horrific scene. “After about an hour the shooting seemed to have stopped so we slowly walked out. On the main road I saw two bodies. As I was walking down the path to the church I saw another body,” she recalled.
The traumatic experience left her so shaken that she could no longer stay in the area. She and other students were reportedly evacuated for safety.
In the video, she shares footage from the aftermath and reflects on how quickly life can change. “One minute, you’re in class studying for a test. The next minute, you’re running for your life.” She stressed that life in Nigeria has become unpredictable amid growing insecurity.
Her emotional testimony and chilling footage sparked widespread discussion online, with many expressing fear, sympathy and concern about ongoing security challenges in the region.
