Super Eagles and Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen has spoken out about the serious and lasting impact of the facial injury he suffered in 2021 and explained why he continues to wear a protective mask four years later.
In an interview with Turkish media fanThe 26-year-old star revealed that nerve damage from the collision still severely limits his facial movement and affects basic functions such as eating.
He told the media:
“Now I only eat the right side of my face. I couldn’t eat the other side. The left side no longer works properly. “
In November 2021, Osimhen suffered a serious injury after colliding with Milan Skriniar during a Serie A match. The injury involved multiple facial fractures, including a broken cheekbone and eye socket, which required $18 in screws and titanium plates during reconstructive surgery.
“Cross in from the wing. I struggled to head the ball and he threw his head back. I didn’t mean to, but my jaw hit his skull and the bones were shattered everywhere.”
Despite recovering and continuing his career, he acknowledges the reality of the injury every day:
“I still feel numb and sometimes in pain. When I smile, only one side of my mouth is fully mobile. Eating is the biggest daily reminder; if I try to use my left side, food falls out.”
