The Iyaganku Magistrates Court in Ibadan has ordered fraudster Ezekiel Onikoyi, 39, to be sentenced to two weeks in prison for stealing a handbag with a cell phone, an electric bank and 4,000 N4,000 women.
Onikoyi, who did not provide the address, was accused of stealing, obtaining money under false excuses and could lead to a violation of peace. He pleaded guilty when he read to him the three counts charges.
Prosecutor, Sgt. Samuel Owolabi told the court that the defendant committed the crime at 11:30 pm on March 14 at the old toll gate on the Ibadan-Lagos highway.
Owolabi said the criminal pretended to be a prophet and deceived Mrs. Balikis Adeoti who was returning from get off work. According to the prosecutor, the criminal sentenced to the prophet intercepted Adorti on the way and claimed there was a word of revelation for her. He instructed her to drop her bag, walk a short distance, reach the connection point to pray, and leave N100 notes on the spot to solve her problem.
Owolabi said Adeoti put down her bag and followed the instructions, but when she returned to the false prophet, her bag disappeared. He said the criminal took away the schoolbag with his cell phone and the electricity bank worth N220,000 and her N4,000.
Prosecutors said the electricity bank was later recycled from the criminals, but the phone did not. He said the offences violated Sections 390(9), Sections 419 and 249(d), 2000 of the Oyo State Criminal Code.
Magistrate Judge Gladys Oladele said he was found guilty, charged and ordered to be sentenced to two weeks in prison at the Ibadan Agodi Correctional Center.
However, Oladele gave the convict a choice to serve the community for one month.
She believes that, in the Electric Bank, one of the things the criminal stole from the complainant should be returned to her (the complainant).
