Dozens of entrepreneurs in southwestern Nigeria are owing to recent business training programs to help them improve their way of running their businesses and pursuing growth. This is the latest phase of the enterprise authorization, sustainability and training (best) masterclass last month organized by the First City Memorial Bank (FCMB), providing hands-on training for participants in Ogun, Oyo, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Kwara State.
From March 12 to 21, 2025, the program focuses on financial management, digital marketing, business planning and sustainable growth practices. Some participants also obtained free business registrations through the bank-backed Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

For many, training has proven to be more useful than expected. Jide Olaniyi, a small business owner from Kwara State University, said he was initially unsure what would happen. “But I have a deeper understanding of how to build my own business and apply digital tools. I’ve seen the difference in how it works,” he said.
In Ogun State, Patricia Simisola said she gained new business skills and benefited from free business registration support. “That was a real reward. It gave me the driving force I needed to formalize my business,” she added.
Participants also talked about the value of interacting with other entrepreneurs. Dolapo Olayiwola, who attended the OYO State Conference, said the experience gave her a new perspective. “It changes the way I make decisions in my business,” she said. “I now have a clearer idea of how to grow without losing focus.”
George Ogbonnaya, head of commercial banking at FCMB, said the plan is aligned with the bank’s commitment to inclusive growth. “Our goal is not only to support entrepreneurs financially, but to help them build sustainable and scalable businesses,” he said.
Since its launch in 2018, the best program has trained hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs. FCMB plans to expand the program to attract more entrepreneurs nationwide and to attract more entrepreneurs by providing education, mentoring and access to funding for vital business infrastructure.
Ifeoma Ozoemena, who joined the Ondo State Conference, has felt the impact. “I’m more confident in growing the business now,” she said. I’m glad I gave it a chance. ”
Business empowerment, sustainability and training masterclass sessions focus on practical knowledge. They cover basic topics: financial literacy, digital marketing, financial management, marketing strategy, operational optimization, sustainable business practices and strategic planning. Participants are part of workshops and web conferences hosted by industry experts and successful entrepreneurs, encouraging them to develop viable plans that align with the principles of reasonable business.
