FEC Approves N750 billion n75 billion road project

The Federal Executive Committee (FEC) has approved a series of road projects worth over 750 billion guilds in several states.

Engineering Secretary Dave Umahi revealed this to the state legislator on Monday, May 5.

Umahi said the council approved the retreat of multiple projects inherited from past governments to align with current budget reality and funding availability.

In a critical approval, the Ikere-Ado-Ekiti Road project was occupied at the Akere-eta-Ogbese-Ekiti border, which spans Ondo and Ekiti states.

The initial 18.4km dual lanes were modified to 15km, costing Rs 19.4 crore.

The Ministry of Engineering has also revised the Sokoto-Zamfara-Katsina-Kaduna-Kaduna Road project under the FEC’s earlier directives to reevaluate the inheritance contract in available funds.

Despite initially awarded a 100.5 billion guild award, the 375km extension has now been rescued, covering 82.4km and retaining the original budget figures.

Another project to carry out the retreat is Maiduguri-Monguno Road in Borno State, which was awarded a 105km project in 2018 but is now divided into two stages.

The first phase covering 30 km has been approved for 21 billion guilds, while the second phase will be submitted to the FEC after the first phase is completed.

In Gombe State, the Cham-numan part of Gom Yula Road in Adamawa has been retreated and received a Dutch 9.25 billion in the first phase.
