Federal government removes Tinubu 2027 campaign posters from Abuja roads

Posters bearing the likeness of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been inundated on the busy Airport Expressway and other locations in Abuja amid controversy over premature campaigning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Daily Trust observed that the campaign-style posters initially dotted the stretch from the city gate to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and other strategic locations.will no longer be visible starting this week. Instead, the space previously occupied by presidential images has been taken over by commercials and posters promoting religious programs.
The posters emerged months ago, sparking public debate and criticism, with many Nigerians, civil society organizations and election observers questioning their timing and legality.

A visit by Daily Trust along the Airport Road this week revealed a conspicuous absence of posters of the President from the city gate through Lugbe and Gosa corridors to the airport. Billboards and lampposts that once bore these images now display advertisements for telecommunications companies, real estate companies and upcoming religious events.

“I don’t know who took them down, but I saw some people taking them down at night, like ordinary workers. They didn’t wear any political shirts,” he said.
