After months of expectations and delays, members of the National Youth Services (NYSC) have reason to smile as the federal government has committed to paying a backlog of newly added 77,000 monthly allowances.
Naija News Recalling that the federal government announced in September 2024 that it would increase the corps members from 33,000 to 77,000 stipend.
But despite repeated commitments to delays and public objections, the new interest rates have not been fully implemented.
The Minister of Youth Development spoke on the politics of Channel Television today, Olawter Oluwandandplease ensure that when an increase is announced, services are provided to members of the Legion and members participating in the program.
Although Olawande confirmed the payment, he did not provide a specific schedule for when the backlog was cleared. This guarantee is to bring welcome to the Legion members who have been waiting for months to expect growth.
“You saw the new DG and said you’ll get it and they asked him a question’ [backlog]? He said we have your details.
“The backlog, we will work hard and make sure payments. It may not be immediate, but it will happen.” Olawande guaranteed.
