The ministry assured Nigerians that once the list of legitimate ambassador nominees is determined, they will be informed correctly through official channels.

This clarification comes after the public’s increase in diplomatic representation to Nigeria, especially after all ambassadors recalled in September 2023.

Meanwhile, the federal government has completed the review of nominees for ambassador positions, with 109 tasks, 76 embassies, 22 senior commissions and 11 consulates waiting around the world Official appointment.

Confirm from multiple sources to understand the process, they told Punch that all necessary security and background checks were conducted on the nominees.

However, despite the review process completed, the merged list of nominees has not been transferred to the National Assembly, and President Bola Tinubu wants to forward the list as confirmation. The delay has raised questions between officials and the public.

On April 2, President Tinob began a two-week visit to Paris, France. During the visit, the president is expected to assess the mid-term performance of his administration, review ongoing reforms, and conduct strategic plans for the second anniversary of his term.

This has led to speculation that the spread of ambassador nominees list is delayed.

Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser to information and strategy, confirmed in a statement that the president’s visit is designed to assess key milestones and promote the reform agenda of his administration.

Several officials within the president confirmed that the review process of slamming the review of ambassador nominees was completed. However, a specific timetable has not been provided to formally submit the list to the National Assembly.

An official who asked not to be named said that despite the conclusions of the background check, the president needed extra time to send the list.
