Chairman/CEO of the Expatriate Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa has announced the withdrawal of more than 956 Nigerians from Libya in the first quarter
Naija News Reports report on the promotion of evacuation International Organization for Migration (IOM) Nigeria and National Commission for Refugees, Immigration and Internal Displaced Persons (NCRMI).
NIDCOM Media, Public Relations and Agreements Director in a statement Monday Abdur-Rahman Balogunthe returnee’s collapse indicated that 683 were female, 132 male, 87 children and 54 infants. From January to March 2025, returnees are brought back to six separate segments.
These trips include the following arrivals: 145, 180 and 159 on January 28, 152 on February 11, 19 and 25, and 144 and 176 on March 4 and 18, respectively.
Dabiri-Erewa reiterated the Commission’s ongoing recommendations to Nigerians to avoid dangerous immigration routes, especially through Libya, a war-torn country that faces many challenges.
“Due to the delicate political situation in Libya, we countless tips on Nigerians to avoid Libya as a way to Europe. Not only Libya, but other irregular routes,” she stressed.
She urged Nigerians to use the law and regular immigration methods and pointed out that some rescued from Libya continue to try dangerous routes to Europe.
Dabiri-Erewa guarantees that the federal government will continue to safeguard the interests, dignity and fundamental human rights of Nigerians regardless of their socioeconomic, national cultural or religious background.
She also called for working with government agencies, NGOs, media and other stakeholders to raise awareness about the dangers of irregular immigration.
