Kano’s Emir, Lamido Sanusi, called on the city’s residents to maintain law, order and avoid inciting unrest.
He also issued a harsh warning to those who opposed Emir’s recovery and restored to the original, declaring that the fire would consume anyone trying to undermine the peace in the city.
On Monday, March 24 on Facebook, Premier Radio in Hausa’s voice message, Sanusi described the people who challenged his chief profession as against God’s will and asserted that these people would not be good in the end. He urged the people of Kano to remain patient and pray, stressing that the conflict in the emirate is not about individuals, but about the fate of God.
“We are calling on people to become law-abiding citizens. This war (Emirate quarrel) is not directed to me; they are fighting against what God is destined to happen. God does not need any support. I beg you to be patient and pray. God will continue to support those who are fair and just,” Mr. Sanusi said.
He added: “The fire will consume anyone who intends to be in Kano. May he never witness the peace in his life. May Allah protect our country and our lives.
Mr Sanusi’s statement appears to be related to tensions following the instructions of Governor Abba Yusuf, directing the state’s emirate council to begin preparing for the Sallah Durbar march. This development sparked further conflict as Mr Sanusi’s rival Aminu Ado Bayero also announced the Duba plan, which coincided with its fifth anniversary to celebrate Kano’s Emir.
Abdullahi Kwaru, the private secretary of Mr. Ado Bayero, said in a letter to the security agency that Duba would conduct a peaceful process and inform the authorities, which also marked the fifth anniversary of Adou Bero’s reign.
The conflict between the two followed the decision of the state government to remove the office in May last year and restored Mr Sanusi to Mr Emir under the new emirate law. Ado Bayero challenged his removal in court, and the two rivals now occupy separate palaces in the city, as they each claim the title of Emir.
