
Five students from Osun State University and four other students were in a car crash at Ife-Badan Expressway.
The road accident occurred on Sunday, March 23, 2025 near the Balogun area in Ikire.
The university’s public relations officer Ademola Adesoji confirmed the tragic incident in a statement Monday.
Adesoji relies on Nigerian police and federal road safety forces to report that the accident occurred in a bus in Ibadan and a bus of 18 passengers taking off from Osogbo, resulting in multiple casualties.
“After receiving this frustrating news, our university administrators quickly dispatched a team to the scene to identify and support any students we were involved in the accident,” the statement said.
“Unfortun, we confirmed the following student losses: 1. Olagbemidedotun, a 200-level software engineering student, 2. SuleimanFarouq Adayo, a 400-level law student, 3. Ogondare Plumi, a 300-level public health student, Mary, a 200-level nursing student.
“But one of our students, Olagbemide Damilola, a student of 200-level medicine and surgery, survived the accident and is currently receiving medical care. Police confirmed a total of 10 deaths in the unfortunate incident.
“This tragic loss has deeply shaken our university community. Our minds and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the deceased. We urge our students, staff and the entire university community to remain calm and supportive during this difficult time.
“Orsen State will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed. We express our heartfelt sympathy to grieving families and pray that they find strength and comfort in their sad moments.”
