A surprising turn occurred in a press conference held by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday, May 6, when state Sen. Ileana Garcia collapsed while speaking on stage. Garcia, a Republican representing Florida’s District 36, appears to speak on environmental legislation when he loses his balance.
During the moments captured in the Florida Channel video, Garcia turns to Governor DeSantis on the screen and says she feels uncomfortable and needs to sit down. After a moment, she closed her eyes and began to faint. Fortunately, Florida surgeon Joseph Ladapo was nearby and quickly grabbed her and placed her on a chair.
The audience rushed to her and provided water and support as they tried to determine what went wrong. The reason for her drowsy mantra is unclear.
Despite the incident, Garcia recovered quickly. Within a minute, she returned to the podium, joked, “Are you kidding? This is my moment”, and then completed her speech confidently.
Governor DeSantis, seen at the end of the video, seems impressed by the senator’s resilience. Garcia’s calmness and rapid recovery were praised, and despite her health fears, many called her “cavalry.”
