Brazilian football player Gabriel Popo reached the game at the age of 26 just before the game started.
According to the gathering, the player suffered a medical emergency and received preliminary treatment at the stadium before the service arrived.
But Popo was later taken to a hospital in St. Paul, where he took it on Sunday.
The match between Xv de Jau and Uniao Suzano was immediately postponed in the third round of Campeonato Paulista.
“It was the incalculable pain and sorrow that announced the death of athlete Gabriel Protasio,” the club said in an Instagram tribute post.
“The player was taken care of during the accommodation and was quickly brought to San Cassa de Ju.”
“The match has been cancelled in the moment of mourning, and in a common agreement between Xv de Jau, Uniao Suzano and Paulista Football Federation.
“In this painful moment, we expressed unity to Gabriel Popo’s family, club members, friends and teammates. May his memory be honored, and we may find the power to bear this irreparable loss. ”
The club did not disclose the cause of the player’s death.
He has made 41 appearances and scored 3 goals throughout his career.
Santa Cruz, one of his former clubs, attended the show in 2023 and he also made a tribute statement.
The club wrote on their X page: “Deeply regretful we mourn the death of Gabriel Protasio Gomes, Gabriel Popo, He defends the color of time in 2023.”
“He left us with a sudden illness, and his early departure left a huge gap. We express our condolences to his family, friends, and especially his daughter Mayla. May God comfort everyone during this painful time.
