The former Nigerian governor died and his cause has been revealed.
Nigeria News Nalin The report said that former military governors of Southeastern state Akwa Ibom and Cross River state Major General Paul Omu are dead.
OMU died Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at the age of 84, and his family said in a statement released Wednesday, April 30.
The statement signed on behalf of the family said that the late general was a native of the Igbid community, a local government area in southern Isco, Nigeria and its communities in the Dami State served with various capabilities. Nigeria Cultural Tour
“Major General Paul Ufuoma Omu is a man with a family, patriot, politician, soldier and community leader whose lives are unwaveringly committed to Nigeria and his beloved isoko country,” the statement said.
OMU served as military governor of the then Southeastern country from July 1975 to July 1978, when he implemented the construction and rehabilitation of core infrastructure in the state. He also laid the foundation for various reforms in the state.
“In 1985, the General OMU was appointed as Commander and Staff Academy and a member of the Armed Forces Ruling Committee of the Supreme Ruling Institution of Nigeria.
The statement added: “In the political landscape, General Om played a key role in Nigeria’s transition to democracy. He was appointed chairman of the Constitutional Conference Committee in 1994, helping to shape the constitutional discourse that influenced Nigeria’s return to civil rule. His leadership, insight, patriotism and patriotism won his national respect and admiration.”
He was appointed as the 10-member board chair of the National Institute of Policy and Strategy (NIPS) and was appointed by former President Umaru Musa Yar’adua in September 2009.
Survived by his wife, Senator (MRS) Stella Omu, six children, siblings and numerous grandchildren and relatives, the former military governor was the chairman of the Isoko Development Union (IDU) between 2014 and 2015.
