The suspended Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara said Dr. George Nweke, the state’s immediate service chief, had been compromised and forced to lie to him.
Fubara made a declaration in a statement signed by him personally, and he responded to his allegations at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, March 28. He said the state’s former service director claimed he was aware of his discussions and plans to support Bauchi Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed’s charges, which was ridiculous.
The suspended governor said that NWEKE claimed he knew it was planning a meeting that attacked the state’s oil pipelines and other state assets, insisting that such a meeting had never been held, which is also ridiculous.
The declaration partially reads;
“My attention has been made by a press conference aired on channel television on Friday, March 28, 2025 by Dr. George Nweke.
Often, I would not respond to his claims, but would correct the false impression that such accusation could have made in the minds of the people, and that it would have caused in the state and the country.
First, about his realization of my discussion and plan to support Bala Mohammed’s 2027 presidential bid. It is ridiculous that Dr. Nweke will be part of any high-level political conference, as he claims, in my night meeting with Bala Mohammed and the militants, more of sitting on my night meeting. How about it, never such a meeting was held.
The truth is, the whole world knows that when the governor of Bauchi State (People’s Democratic Governors Forum) visited the state, there was no secret of the visit.
Dr. Nwaeke claims that he knows my meeting is to encourage attacks on the state’s oil pipeline and other state assets, which is also ridiculous because I don’t have time to hold any meetings with militants or any criminal group to destabilize the state.
It is recorded that even in the face of obvious provocations, I have been at the forefront of preaching peace.
The truth is that Dr. Nwaeke has been compromised and everything he says is intended to fulfill his promise to those who may pay or force him to lie to me.
I call on all the good-willed Nigerians and the good people in Rivers to ignore everything Dr. Nwaeke said because they were just desperately trying to discredit me and my government and undermine the peace process of Mr. President. ”
