The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) detained four Chinese nationals and 27 Nigerians for illegal mining activities held in Jos. Commission spokesman Dele Oyewale confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, March 11.
According to the EFCC, the suspect was arrested on Saturday at the Nigeria Limited premises, Dura Rayfield, Mang Road, Joss. The operation then corroborated intelligence linked the company to illegal mining activities in the state.
Among the arrested, the supplier found to possess unprocessed solid minerals and is suspected to be illegally mined. During the raid, EFCC operators recovered a truck loaded with eight bags of processed monoliths, each weighing 1,000 kg and worth R4 million.
The EFCC said the investigation is underway and the suspect will sue the court after the investigation is over.
