Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara made her first public appearance since the state declared a state of emergency.
The Governor was seen attending Sunday service at the headquarters of the Salvation Commission in Harcourt Port Gra.
Fubara’s appearance came days after the river’s state of emergency was declared on Tuesday, March 19, as political tensions and security issues grew. As part of the emergency measures, Fubara, his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu and all members of the Rivers State Capitol were suspended. Tinubu replaced it with the appointment of Ibok-Ete Ibas as the sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs for the first six months.
The decision sparked different responses from political stakeholders, legal practitioners and civil society groups. Meanwhile, the newly appointed sole administrator has taken steps to assert control. Since his tenure, he has held emergency safety meetings with law enforcement agencies, traditional rulers and local government administrators. During these meetings, he confirmed the release of the state allocation of the reservation and directed immediate payments for local government workers.
The IBA also inspected the ongoing reconstruction of the River State Capitol, promising to ensure its timely completion of governance.
Governor Forbala attended church services with his chief of staff, Edison Ehie.
