Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara has formally notified the State Capitol that his intention is to propose the 2025 Appropriations Act for consideration and approval.
In a letter sent to Speaker Martin Amaewhule on March 11, 2025, titled “Introduction to the budget of River State’s 2025 Budget to the River State Capitol” Fubara conveyed his plan to showcase the budget for March 12, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
However, the letter is dedicated to the General Assembly Complex on Moscow Road that was bombed last year, rather than the legislative district of Aba Road where lawmakers meet.
Fubara’s notice is in line with a recent Supreme Court decision that recognizes 27 legislators loyal to the federal capital’s territorial minister Nyesom Wike as a legitimate parliament.
The governor expressed disappointment at the failure of lawmakers to attend the advisory meeting held in the Government House of Representatives on March 10, noting that he will continue to make a budget introduction, as he has obtained a certified authentic copy of the court’s judgment.
His letter reads:Please recall my statewide airing on March 2, 2025, in which I express our commitment to the recent Supreme Court decision on the political dispute in River State.
“It is to facilitate this commitment that we considered all the issues raised by the judgment in our consultation meeting with the River State Capitol on March 10, 2025 and reached a direction forward in the best interests of our dear state.
“However, this critical meeting has never been held, which is unfortunate. Nevertheless, we have decided to continue to provide the provisions of the judgment promptly in accordance with the authenticated authentic copy.
“We therefore wish to inform the Speaker of our wishes and intentions.transparent
Fubara thanked the house for its consideration and paid tribute to the speakers.
