Chief of Staff Edison Ehie, who suspended River Governor Siminalayi Fubara, denied the explosion that occurred on October 29, 2023 at the River State Capitol.
Ehie stressed in a new interview that only House Speaker Martin Amaewhule can enter the conference venue after work hours or weekends, insisting on explosive questions affecting the Legislative Assembly Hall.
“It’s important to clarify that I’m not, I didn’t burn the burning of the river convention,” he said.
Eshi also claimed that 10 witnesses, including senior police, testified in the Federal High Court in Abuja, confirming the reason they saw the Speaker’s (Amaewhule) convoy and therefore allowed him to enter the General Assembly building on the evening of October 29, 2023 (Explosion Day).
Former Rivers civil servant George Nweke alleged on Friday that Governor Forbala was in charge of the explosion and Ehie was accomplice.
Esch responded to Nweke’s allegations, “I will not be fully involved with Mr. George Nwook because I have directed my attorney to raise a criminal slander issue against George Nwook, and I hope he is ready to prove his claims and allegations.”
Esch continued: “Obviously, the world has seen that George Nwork is not his right mindset.”
Ehie accused Nwaeke of succumbing to political pressure to pursue economic interests.
He quoted Nwaeke’s wife protests over her husband’s sudden disappearance On the weekend, Nwaeke was described as a man who “betrayed his conscience” and his family “had the world.”
Ehie then solicited financial aid from NWAEKE shortly after resigning last week and asserted that Nwaeke lacked satisfaction.
Furthermore, Ehie downplayed Nwaeke’s role in river state governance and noted that the former civil servant chief had no significant impact.
According to Ehie, Nwaeke never held a private meeting with the suspended governor, urging Nwaeke to designate the date and time for him to visit Fubara without a security permit.
Ehie said: “George Nwaeke never, he wasn’t even on the list of agreements for those who couldn’t interrupt their contact with the governor.
“Recorded in the Government Building. The security permits for the Government Building I oversee or supervise are with the DSS.
“I challenge George Nwaeke, as he claimed, mentioned starting on October 29, 2023, and by the other day, when he visited the Government Building in odd hours without prior approval from the DSS, he said he had discussed it with the governor. Let him show the record. No.”
