The New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) rejected the claim of the President of the National Progressive Congress (APC) Abdullahi Umar Ganduje that it is the national leader Rabiu Musa Musa Kwankwaso’s plan to join the ruling party.

Speaking to Punch, NNPP’s national propaganda minister Ladipo Johnson said Kwankwaso did not express any interest in joining the ruling party, but was only focused on rebuilding and strengthening the NNPP.

Ganduje caused controversy earlier when he hosted members of the Tinubu support group at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

The former Governor Kano claimed that the NNPP was “dead” and added that the APC was ready to “welcome Kwankwaso home.

“The coffin has been built. What’s left now is to dig the grave. Kwankwaso wants to come back and we will welcome him. ” Du Jie said.

Johnson described Ganduje’s remarks as “insignificant” and “panic-driven”, affirming that Kwankwaso remains committed to strengthening the NNPP.

Johnson said:He is focusing on rebuilding and strengthening the NNPP and is currently consulting with Nigerians in different fields on how best to reposition the party to 2027. ”

He added that Gandujay’s remarks stemmed from fear of the political influence of Kwavasso, noting that “He was in a state of panic because he knew Kwankwaso added more value to any political space than he could. ”
