Nigeria News Nalin Earlier reports said that the Labor Party (LP) elected George Moghalu as the flag bearer for the elections to be held later this year.
In the main party elections held at AWKA on Saturday, Mr. Moghalu, former managing director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), won 573 votes to beat his sole opponent, John Nwosu, who won 19 votes.
Moghalu extended a scholarship to his opponent in his acceptance speech, saying solidarity among party stakeholders is crucial to winning in the polls.
“I am ready for the challenges ahead. With my experience in public service and politics, I am confident in the ability to defeat Chukukwuma Soludo, the current governor of the Major League of Progressives (APGA),” he said.
He thanked LP for its transparent and reliable primary election and expressed his gratitude to the delegates.
“We must now work to sell the LP agenda to the people of Anambra. Our goal is to reach every corner and crack in the country through our message,” he said.
“Anambra is a happy state with abundant human and natural resources.
“All you need is visionary leadership to harness these potentials to benefit our people.
“As we continue to move forward in this game, I will regain my confidence in the party.
“LP is still a powerful force, we are driving like a train, with a clear destination: a better Anambra,” he said.
Returning officer at the primary school, Bennett Etanabena praised the peaceful act of the election and urged all party members to unite and succeed in the polls.
“Anambra is the stronghold of the Labor Party,” Etabena said.
