
The Akwa Ibom State Police Department has identified a young woman identified as Ruth Sunday, allegedly her boyfriend was stabbed during a heated debate at Qua River Quarters in the state’s Ek River Local Government Area on May 6.
In a statement released, police public relations officer DSP Timfon John said that preliminary investigations showed the couple had a violent dispute involving kitchen knife, resulting in both of them being stabbed.
“At around 10:15 am on May 6, 2025, agents of the order received information about a violent dispute in the Qua River area of the Exeter.
Upon arriving at the scene, the officer found a woman who was later identified as Ruth Ngozi, while her cohabiting boyfriend was lying in blood.
Preliminary investigations show that the couple had a fatal battle involving a kitchen knife, which resulted in both men being stabbed. At present, the cause of the dispute is unknown.
Police officer Imakemaker said Ruth was found lifeless at the scene and her boyfriend was seriously injured and was taken to her and accompanied to the hospital with her. Ruth was pronounced dead when she arrived.
The suspected murder weapon has been recovered and efforts are being made to find a boyfriend’s relative, while the deceased’s family has been contacted.
