Edo Governor Okpebholo announced an indefinite suspension of the Public Safety Response Team (PSRT) of the head of Kelly Okungbowa.

Naija News The report said the decision was several complaints about the team’s behavior.

Earlier this week, PSRT officials allegedly tried to control a moving vehicle in the ring area of Benin City.

The operation caused the driver to lose control, bent over and fall into the POS booth, sadly resulting in the death of a young girl.

In a statement issued by the state secretary Markhor Khilor, It has been confirmed that the task force is now suspended indefinitely.

“Here is announcing the public’s information that the Governor of Edo, Mr. Edo, Senator Okpebholo on Monday has ordered an indefinite suspension of the Public Safety Response Team (PSRT) led by Kelly Okungbowa,” Ikhilor said on Friday.

“This decision was caused by several complaints received by the state government regarding allegations of blackmail, harassment and unruly conduct by team members.”

He reiterated the government’s dedication to maintaining law and order, stressing that any deviation from the team’s initial mission, namely, to support public order, to maintain public infrastructure, and to address illegal activities such as street trade and unauthorized parking in our communities, will not be accepted.

SSG said the team’s structure and operations will be conducted with a focus on recruiting and training its members to ensure that all government-approved activities in the state meet the highest standards.

    PDP reaction

However, the Edo National Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is characterized by the governor’s latest actions, who asserted that the governor only addresses symptoms rather than fundamental problems.

“The latest moratorium involves allegations of extortion, harassment and inappropriate conduct, represents the fourth in a series of suspensions that have plagued the Okpebholo government within just three months of taking office. These include state attorney general and judicial commissioner Samson Osagie, and local government service commissioner Damian Lawani, who were fired for serious financial misconduct,” said Dr. The Minister of Publicity of Edo PDP Careers Committee said Chris Osa Nehikhare.

“For Okpebholo, unfortunately, these suspensions only show a deeper problem. The basic problem is the fact that he is operating under illegal authorization.”
