Eboni Governor Francis Nwifuru won the homage of basketball star Ejiofor at Itlan Estate in Abakaliki as it helped Nigeria win the 2025 Afrobasket Women’s Championship.
Nwifuru received her at the government building, praising the Okposi-born athlete as the state’s proud ambassador and a symbol of Ebonyi’s sporting talent on the global stage.
“I was a little sad in the last AFCON because Ebonyi’s existence did not exist.” The governor said.
“But I was so happy when I heard Ebony representing in the championships we won abroad. It was one of my excitement.”
Governor Nwifuru praised Ejiofor’s rise to become a national team, a story of determination and divine destiny, praising her for encouraging young athletes.
He also approved 50 million support for male and female players at the state’s standard basketball court.
“Our reward system works well and we must reward you” The governor said.
“You not only represent the country, but also make your hometown proud. We pray that God will give you strength and that everything you need to be better next time.” The governor said.
