Edo State Governor Okpebholo expressed satisfaction with the ruling of the governor’s election court, which reaffirmed his victory in the September 21, 2024 election.
A three-member court panel led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi dismissed the allegations filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate Asue Ighodalo for lack of reliable evidence.
Wednesday, Naija News The court reportedly ruled that PDP and IGHODALO failed to prove their claims against Okpebholo.
The court said the petitioners “didn’t call any competent witnesses” to confirm their petition, thus maintaining the victory of the National Progressive Congress (APC) candidate Okpebholo, who was declared a winner by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).
In the September 2024 election, Okpebholo won 291,667 votes, beating his closest rival Ighodalo, who won 247,274 votes. Nevertheless, Ighodalo and PDP challenged the results, accusing election violations, but the courts had no advantage in their case.
In a statement issued by its chief press secretary Span spanOkpebholo expanded the olive tree branch to Ighodalo and opposition members, urging them to join forces with the collective progress of the Edo country.
The governor expressed his gratitude to the people of the country for their unwavering support and belief in the vision of prosperous and united Edo.
“We are focused on continuing the excellent work we started. This victory is not me alone, but for every citizen and Edo country resident,” The governor said.
He further highlighted his administration’s commitment to making campaign commitments, noting that they would not be distracted by “frivolous litigation.”
Governor Okpebholo reiterated that his administration remains committed to good governance, transparency and inclusive development.
