Unknown kidnappers along the Benin-Ore highway kidnapped members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ibadan, Ibadan.
According to a Facebook post by user Agbakwara, Lawal traveled from Benin, Edo Prefecture, to return to her main mission in Ogbomosho when she was kidnapped. Agbakwara said the kidnappers demanded her ransom of 220 million guilds.
Agbakwara wrote: “My close friend Lawal Rofiat Kofoworola was kidnapped on his way from Benin to Ibadan to restore Ogbomosho’s PPA.
She continued: “This is a lifelong struggle, supporting herself through college by working at Dufill Company in Benin. Now, the kidnappers are asking for 20 million, and we don’t know what to do. Her parents have low privileges and can’t afford them.”
“I have reported her phone number to the New York City Secretariat in Ibadan, but there is no response. We are exhausted and eager to ask for help!
“Please, Nigerian, I need your support. If there is any way to help you by spreading this message, reaching the authorities or any help. She has been my close friend since I was 100th level and I have never had myself since that happened.”
Oyo State NYSC Coordinator Odoba Oche confirmed the incident during a phone conversation with Punch Metro on Thursday, February 27. He said security agencies had been alerted, but he did not know if any of the kidnappers demanded any ransom.
“Her parents reported the incident to us yesterday. We were not aware of the incident until our parents reported it,” Oche said.
He added: “We have contacted the state headquarters, Ondo and Edo States NYSC and we are also reminding the security agencies to take necessary actions. I don’t know if the kidnappers have reached out to demand a ransom.”
“She returned to Benin without informing New York City of New York City’s instructions. The NYSC continued to emphasize to the members of the Legion that the authorities need to be notified at all times before traveling and avoiding night trips.”
