The gunman has kidnapped a final year student at Augustine Madubiya Federal University Bilning Kebby.

A local resident was also shot dead and was shot in the attack, which took place around 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at the off-campus hotel Istijaba Villa in Unguwar jeji.

According to the witness’s account, five armed personnel approached the students who were sleeping outside the room due to the hot weather and demanding money.

When students explained that they had no money, the attackers attacked them.

During the chaos, nearby resident Malam Siddi Hussaini, leaning towards his cattle, responded to the commotion but was shot dead by a gun.

Augustine Madubiya, the last-year student in the Department of Economics, was taken away by the attackers.

But another student, Steven, a 200-level business administration student, managed to escape.

In response to the incident, Forbuk Vice-Chancellor Professor Muhammad Zaiyan Umar visited the scene with the department police in the Kalgo branch, as well as officials from the Kalgo State Services (DSS).

He addressed the students, assuring them the University’s commitment to their safety and security.

Professor Umar also conveyed the incident to Governor Nasir Idris, through His Excellency Nasir Idris, Secretary of the State Government and Director of Security Services in the Cabinet Office.

The university expressed its gratitude to the Unguwar Jeji area head and local community members.

It also calls on the continued assistance of the state government, Nigerian police and other security agencies to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped students and prevent future occurrences.
