Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has sparked online debate after she shared insights into how she raised her son Jamil.
The “Garri and Water” hitmaker retweeted a video of Pastor Ibukun Awosika discussing parenting, stressing that children from wealthy families should not limit their ambitions because of their parents’ success.
In response to her Instagram Story, Tiwa explained that she has been making a conscious effort to apply this principle to Jamil.
She revealed that her son had to be afforded certain privileges at home, and she deliberately withheld some comforts, such as specific seats when they traveled together.
Tiwa added that if Jamil wanted to buy a game like Roblox, he would have to earn money by completing chores and maintaining good grades.
She also said he was restricted from using an iPad, eating snacks and sweets during the week, and was required to have nightly Bible study before bed.
Additionally, she mentioned that unless they were traveling on a private jet, Jameel would have to sit in economy class. The singer noted that her son occasionally complained about the rules, citing neck and leg discomfort, even though his legs didn’t reach the floor.
The post drew mixed reactions from fans. Some criticized her approach, citing past explicit videos that went viral and questioning her parenting methods. Others believe that children should see completing chores as a responsibility rather than receiving payment.

Don’t spoil them, teach them to adapt because that will be the most valuable gift they will get from you in the future. This Tiwa is smart, may God bless her.”
