The gangster suspected of being the oil thieves destroyed the 24-inch gas pipeline between Afranma and angiamagbene in the southern government area of Iyelsa State. The pipeline was previously operated by Nigeria AGIP Petroleum and has since been acquired by Oando Plc.
To this end, the Bayelsa State Government condemned the attack and promised to work with security agencies to arrest the perpetrators. Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, Information, Training and Strategy Commissioner, issued a statement Friday saying the bill was economic damage that the government would not tolerate.
She said: “The Bayelsa State Government hopes to condemn criminal damage caused by the Ogboinbiri/Obiobi 24-inch gas pipeline between the local government of Ilyadam Region and the angiamagbene. Such economic damage will not be tolerated.”
“The government is working closely with security agencies to arrest those responsible and prevent future events. The public should note that protecting state assets is a collective responsibility and we urge all citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity about public assets to law enforcement agencies.”
She warned that damage to the pipeline will not only lead to loss of revenue from federal, state and local governments, but also bring serious environmental and health risks. “Experience of natural gas and petrochemicals can pose a significant health challenge for citizens,” she noted.
Koku-Obiyai also called on young people in the state to avoid acts of destruction. “We urge young people in the state to resist the temptation of engaging in destructive activities and work with the government to maintain peace and protect public infrastructure. Together, we can realize the government’s prosperity agenda and develop infrastructure to attract investment.”
“Let us work together to ensure the security and security of our public assets and to prevent future economic destruction.”
