- Wizkid’s 14-year-old son Champz said he successfully balances studies and music.
- After his debut EP topped the Apple Music Nigeria charts, the young rapper insists education comes first while steadily growing his music career.

Champz, the 14-year-old breakout star and eldest son of Afrobeat legend Wizkid, has revealed how he manages a thriving music career while pursuing an education. During a recent Q&A session with his mother, Shola Ogudu, the young rapper shared insights into his rigorous daily routine, proving that even a chart-topping artist has to do his homework.
In response to questions about his lifestyle since the release of his debut EP, Champion’s Arrival, Champz emphasized that school remains his main focus. “I was very focused in school, I would go to the studio during recess and I would write in my free time,” he explains. “I juggle music and school well because I can find a balance between school and work life.”
record-breaking debut
The teen, whose real name is Boluwatife Balogun, isn’t just “dabbled” in music. His debut album made history in November 2025 when it topped the Apple Music Nigeria Hot Albums chart within just five hours of its release. The achievement makes him the youngest Nigerian artist ever to top the charts, even surpassing the earlier milestone set by his father.
No pressure, just passion
Despite the inevitable comparisons to his father, Champs remains calm about his fame. In previous interviews, he noted that he felt “no pressure” because he was focusing on his own sound – a mix of Afro-swing and British rap – rather than trying to replicate Wizkid’s signature style.
His mother, Shola Ogudu, has been a strong advocate for his education and mental health, often reminding critics that he is still a child first. She expressed her pride in the Q&A and highlighted his discipline: “Champz is 14 years old and balances academics and passion with rigorous discipline. This is Champz’s journey, his trials and his future.”
With over 1 million live streams recorded within the first 24 hours of the EP’s release, Champz has quickly become the voice of the “next generation” of Afrobeats while ensuring he doesn’t miss a beat in class.
