Legendary Fuji musician K1 de Ultimate revealed that he took the formal steps to institutionalize Fuji music by formally registering the genre and writing a constitution.
In a recent interview, the music idol clarified that he did not hijack the genre, but instead worked to give it structural and legal recognition. “I didn’t hijack Fuji Music. I formalized it.” K1 said. “I officially registered it and even drafted the constitution. They did it in my house.”
He explained that Fuji Music was formally registered in the Company Affairs Committee (CAC) under the name of “Fuji Music” and created the Nigerian Fuji Musicians Association to further protect and promote the interests of artists of this genre.
According to K1, the move is to protect the cultural heritage of Fuji Music and ensure future generations benefit from a clear and recognized platform.
Despite some criticism, K1 de Ultimate sticks to his efforts, highlighting the demand for structure in the Nigerian music industry, especially for traditional genres such as Fuji. “I want Fuji to have a foundation, a system that can surpass all of us.” He added.
K1’s efforts are widely regarded as a role in elevating Fuji music from local street corners to global stages, which not only makes him a performer, but also a pioneer in the evolution of the genre.
