Zainab Suleiman, a Nigerian doctor, revealed that she married her mentor and platonic friend six weeks after he knew his intentions.
Zainab shared her story in a Facebook post on Monday, May 1, 2025, saying before his marriage proposal that their friendship was built on spirituality, trust, mutual support without romantic intentions.
She wrote: “I married my mentor and friends. When life is tough, I talk to him about everything and he provides me with great advice, guidance and support. Sometimes, he prays.”
I’ve shared my thoughts with him since 2022, including my crazy relationship. Over the years, we have built trust without any romantic or inappropriate conversations. Despite the many suitors and admirers, I didn’t even look at him romantically.
To briefly introduce the story, he knew his intentions and within six weeks we got married. When I least expect it, marriage comes. I found marriage in a place where I didn’t even dream of it. My eyes are elsewhere. But, as they say, when the time of Allah comes, He makes all things beautiful. A man who takes you seriously will do halal for you. A man who is sure you will make you love easily. Alhamdulillah, I got something I have always prayed and hoped for – a person of peace, comfort and security. Will I deny which favor from Allah?
