2023 Labor presidential candidate Peter Obi asserted that the Benue state government’s visit to his planned visit to the Internal Displaced Persons (IDPS) calls for treatment to be made to change his approach to political issues.
Naija News It is reported that Peter Obi, who is actively engaged in humanitarian propaganda with victims of violence throughout Nigeria, plans to visit the IDP camp in Benue.
The former Anambra governor had previously visited camps in the plateau, southern Kaduna and Nasarawa states, where he met with displaced families, donated relief materials, and advocated emergency government intervention.
Obi’s visit to the Plateau State attracted national attention after meeting with Governor Caleb Mutfwang and visiting victims of herder attacks.
However, his proposed visit to Benue triggered a political storm within the state’s corridor of power.
Peter Obi said in a statement through 𝕏thern on Monday night, April 14, 2025 that he has suffered even more serious situations in his political career since he announced his presidential ambitions.
Peter Obi said he had tried to reach Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia, but this was unsuccessful.
The former governor of Anambra state pointed out that his scheduled visit suddenly stopped after his security team told him about the state’s decision.
Statement reading, “Often, I don’t comment on this issue because I have suffered worse in my political life since I announced my presidency and it has been worsening as I try to do things in a civilized and organized way. Evolving events require me to start speaking out now.
“About what happened today when I plan to visit Benue today, I am not sure about the Governor, my dear brother, my respected father with deep respect, and I respect this situation very much. Exhausted all possible ways and I had to use this available platform to make sure my message is communicated.
“On Thursday, April 10, I plan to visit the Plateau and Benue states respectively. The Plateau is on Sunday, April 13, 2025, Benue and Monday, April 14, 2025. My trips include phone calls paid to the Governor, as well as visits to the IDP camp and visits to the IDP camp and nursing schools in both states.
“According to my practice, I have been in contact with the Plateau State Government on my visit, which included spending the day with the victims at the IDP camp in Bokos, and I embraced my visit with all my heart to expand support, care and compassion for Nigerians in need.
“Similarly, I tried to contact the governor of Benue State directly without success. Then, I successfully contacted his ADC and he told me that the governor attended a very important meeting and would call me before midnight the same day.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t get the call until Sunday night when he sent me a message saying he had not been able to reach his principal since I called. I was on how the ADC couldn’t contact his principal within 3 days.
“However, since my visit to the governor was only for politeness and respect, I decided to continue my trip to Makurdi. I left Jos earlier today at 7am and arrived at Akwanga around 10am, my security team stopped and said they received a press statement from the Benue State Government that they allegedly evacuated from the Benue State Government, which I sent my introduction directly during my trip to Mir. My introduction was at the time. The letter totally refers to the itinerary I had previously communicated it directly to the ADC and was communicated to the security agents of Benue through my own security department.
“I was forced to remind them that the purpose of all is to support good causes in the field of critical development: health and wellness education, education, education and caring for the people we need, and that’s what I do in my private life before going into politics, even in politics, I continue to do it.
“At that time everyone knew how I had to get permission from then-President Goodluck Jonathan, President, and I needed to visit Haiti during the earthquake. I plan to visit a school built by the bishop of Gboko, a nursing school and an IDP camp, which reflects my true concern for the welfare of my fellow countrymen and the ongoing manifestation of my love, care and compassion for the displaced. ”
