Hakeem Baba-ahmed’s former special counsel for political affairs has said that although he has a lot to do with his political advice, which is the basis of his appointment, he cannot contribute meaningfully in this capacity.
Naija News Baba-Ahmed was named as Special Adviser for Political Affairs in the office of Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2023, and he resigned in April 2025.
Speaking on the political side of the channel today, Baba-Ahmed said he resigned because the Tinubu government lacked the enthusiasm to fix Nigeria.
Baba-Ahmed said he could not continue to work with the government, which no longer had the task of achieving change for the people, especially in addressing poverty and insecurity in the north, claiming that it had deteriorated under Tinubu.
According to him, Tinubu asked for a private meeting but he refused because he would tell him things he might not want to hear, including advising him not to run in 2027.
He said Tinub should consider supporting a young, more dynamic candidate from within his party to run for president in 2027 rather than seeking reelection.
But when asked if he would regain his chances, Baba-Ahmed insisted that he would not regret working with the president, but would not accept the chance to return if asked again.
He replied, “The way the Tinub administration goes forward – no. I’m not doing anything. I should be in the Vice President’s Office as the President’s Political Affairs Advisor, but I’m not doing anything.”
