U.S. vice president JD Vance said immigrants on student visas would be deported if the U.S. determines that its accommodation is not in the country’s best interest.
Vance spoke in an interview with Fox News, which aired Thursday night, March 13.
The vice president said he expects the number of deportations to increase as President Donald Trump’s administration stepped up efforts to evacuate illegal immigrants from the country.
He added that so far, Trump has been impatient with the deportation process, promising that the numbers will increase.
Asked if it would affect foreign students who entered the country legally, Vance replied to touting it as a measure of beef safety.
“It has something to do with freedom of speech, and to me, yes, it has something to do with national security, but more importantly, we, as the American public, have decided to join our national community.”
“And if the Secretary of State and the President decide that this person should not be in the United States and that they do not have legal rights to retain here, it would be so simple.
“I think if we are sure that it is not in the best interest of the United States to have them in their best interests in our country, then we will definitely see some people who are deported on their student visas.
“I don’t know how high that number will be, but you’ll see more people.”
Vance also accused foreign students of occupying attractions in advanced universities at the expense of Native Americans.
“Many foreign students, most students pay the entire goods. So sometimes you have you in elite universities like Columbia or Harvard, and you have a qualified middle-class American child who doesn’t have a place in these universities because some Chinese oligarchs paying $100,000 a year take the place,” he said.
“So, it’s not only bad for national security, but for many kids who want to go to a college, it’s harmful to the American dream because their location is taken away by foreign students. Of course, this is what we’re looking for.”
