Police Inspector Kayode Egbetokun has withdrawn an invitation previously extended to Muhammadu Sanusi Kano, which is related to the recent violence that occurred during the Eid-El-Fitr celebration.
Police invited Emir to appear at the troops headquarters in Abuja on April 8, 2025, for allegedly killing members involved in the alert organization allegedly part of his entourage. The invitation was conveyed in a letter dated April 4, signed by Commissioner Olajide Ibitoye, police officer, on behalf of the Deputy Police Department in charge of the Force Intelligence Department.
The incident took place at the Eid prayer meeting held at the Kofar Mata Eid prayer venue in Kano, which was chaired by Sanusi and attended by Kano Governor Abba Yusuf and other top officials. The Kano Police Command earlier banned Duba during the celebrations and later confirmed the formation of an eight-person team to investigate the reported killings.
In a statement issued on Sunday, April 7, the IGP decided to withdraw the invitation at the advice of respected stakeholders. Instead, the police will now obtain a monarch’s statement in Kano through the Force Intelligence Department.
“Under the leadership of the Attorney General of Police, the Nigerian Police Force remains firmly committed to performing its criminal investigation duties at the highest level of professionalism, including the investigation of this incident,” the statement said.
Adjobi noted that arrests related to violence have been arrested and reaffirmed the troops’ position on neutrality and justice. He added: “The Force also wishes to reaffirm that its actions are guided solely by the principles of justice, neutrality and professionalism.”
He stressed that anyone is convicted of violence and will be brought to justice regardless of their identity.
