Anthony Joshua has spoken of finding strength amid heartbreak after two close associates were tragically killed in a fatal road accident in Nigeria.
In an emotional video shared on social media, the British heavyweight boxer expressed his gratitude to fans around the world for their overwhelming support during a painful time.
The 36-year-old former world champion suffered only minor injuries after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a stationary truck on a major highway in Lagos on December 29. Sadly, his fitness coach Sina Ghami and his personal trainer Latif “Latz” Ayodele died at the scene.
Joshua reflects on the loss in the six-minute clip, speaking candidly about life and death. “My time will come one day and I’m not afraid at all,” he said. “It gives me comfort knowing I have two brothers on the other side. I’ve lost people before, but nothing like this to my left or my right.”
He also acknowledged the deep pain he felt, noting that the tragedy affected family, friends and loved ones who relied on the two men. “Their parents, relatives, friends and I have all lost two incredible people who were so important to our lives. It’s been really hard,” he added.
Meanwhile, legal action has begun, with the driver of the Lexus SUV at fault, 46-year-old Adeniyi Kayode, facing four charges, including dangerous driving causing death.
Despite the emotional impact, Joshua resumed training and shared a video of himself working on the pads on Snapchat with the caption, “Mental Strength Therapy.”
The boxer also expressed his gratitude to those who supported him during his ordeal, thanking the medical staff of Ikoyi Lagoon Hospital, as well as Presidents Bola Tinubu, Femi Otedola, Aliko Dangote, Senator Daisy Danjuma, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the governors of Lagos and Ogun states.
