Owolabi Akinlolu faces charges of RA-pp-pir ra-py-par, according to Punk, deputy police chief of the Ogudu Police Department in Lagos State.
In July 2024, Punch Metro reported that the survivor’s mother, Mrs. Aramide Olupona, accused police of trying to cover up the incident. She said Akinlolu’s wife and family urged her to withdraw the charges.
Sources close to the investigation said Nigerian police forces intend to postpone the investigation and the suspect’s court appearance until after they plan to retire in December 2024, allegedly to make him more likely to withdraw.
Akinlolu reportedly called the teenager on June 29, 2024, and he pretended to tell her that the person who stole the cell phone two weeks ago was arrested.
