Nigerian singer Luger has warned of growing insecurity in parts of Nigeria ahead of the festive season, expressing particular concern for Nigerians returning from abroad, popularly known as “IJGBs”.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Ruger expressed his concerns about the rise in kidnappings across the country. He described the troubling trend as a “full-time business” in some areas and warned the situation could worsen during the December holidays when many people travel back home.
“I’m scared for people this December. Kidnapping has become a full-time activity in some parts of Nigeria and this holiday season is only going to get worse,” the singer wrote.
He further warned that year-end celebrations usually attract large numbers of Nigerians returning from abroad, which could provide opportunities for criminals to attack.
“People will be returning to their villages from abroad and from many other parts of Nigeria. These [criminals] Severe action will be taken,” he added.
Ruger’s post sparked mixed reactions online. While many social media users praised him for speaking out about worsening insecurity, others lamented the government’s seeming inability to effectively address the issue.
As December quickly enters what is often referred to as “Detty December” as numerous concerts, parties and celebrations take place across the country, Ruger’s warning serves as a sobering reminder of the security challenges that continue to plague Nigeria.
