Immigration groups sue Trump to end birthright citizenship in U.S.

US President Donald Trump is being sued by immigration advocates after he ended automatic citizenship for children born in the United States to parents who were in the country illegally or temporarily.

exist On Monday, Trump signed an executive order at the White House aimed at ending the long-standing policy of birthright citizenship.

The order, which will take effect within 30 days, challenges more than a century of U.S. policy and court interpretations of the Constitution.

Immigration advocates quickly filed a lawsuit in New Hampshire on Monday night, shortly after the order was signed, according to a report from Bloomberg.

During Monday’s briefing, Trump reiterated his commitment to the controversial policy changes.

“The federal government will not recognize automatic birthright citizenship for illegal alien children born in the United States. We will also enhance vetting and screening of illegal aliens,” he said.
