    • The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has fired a police officer, Chukwu Nancy Ngozi, for allegedly planning the kidnapping of her brother with another police officer, Aliyu Usman.
    • Both men were found guilty of criminal conspiracy, theft, unlawful possession of a firearm and kidnapping.
    • NIS spokesperson ACI Akinsola Akinlabi said the disciplinary action was part of a wider review that resulted in numerous dismissals, demotions and retirements in the department.
    • Earlier, the police arrested Chukwu and her NSCDC sister Juliet Chukwu in connection with the kidnapping of their brother and another victim in Enugu State.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has sacked a junior official, Chukwu Nancy Ngozi, for allegedly plotting to kidnap her brother.

Ngozi and another police officer, Aliyu Usman, were found guilty of criminal conspiracy, theft, unlawful possession of firearms and kidnapping following internal disciplinary proceedings.

According to a statement by the spokesperson of the department, ACI Akinsola Akinlabi, the disciplinary hearings were concluded on April 14 and September 4, 2025 respectively.

Akinrabi noted that the Civil Defense, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) recently reviewed 31 disciplinary cases involving NIS personnel based on the recommendations of the Board’s Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee (BDGPC), which met on July 11, 2025.

“Eight officers were dismissed for serious misconduct and breach of military regulations. In addition, five officers were forced to retire for misconduct,” he said.

He further revealed that “eight officers were demoted one level and five additional officers received written warnings for inappropriate conduct.”

Akinrabi added: “The committee also reviewed the appeals of the two police officers from their dismissal but these were dismissed due to lack of evidence. However, following a successful appeal, one officer will be reinstated while the two officers were cleared of all charges.”

Akinrabi reiterated the bureau’s commitment: “The disciplinary measures underscore the committee’s commitment to maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards among all cadres of the bureau.”

He assured that such operations would “continue without fear or favor and in strict compliance with existing rules and regulations.”

It is worth mentioning that in July, the Enugu State Police Command arrested Chukwu and her sister, Juliet Chukwu, an NSCDC officer, for allegedly plotting to kidnap her brother, Mr. Friday Chukwu, along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, where a ransom of £30 million was reportedly paid.

The sisters are also accused of being involved in the kidnapping of Mr Dennis Igwe, the managing director of China Oriental Mining Company, in the same area.
