Aseku is the Assistant Director of Immigration (ASI), accused of collecting salaries from the Nasarawa Department of Education, Science and Technology, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and the NIS.
He appeared before Justice Binta Dogonyaro, the High Court of the Federal Capital Region (FCT) in Apo, Abuja, with nine-point abuse office and corruption charges. According to a statement by ICPC spokesman Demola Bakare, ASEKU allegedly received N4.2 million guilds from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Nasarawa State in 2015, while serving as a school teacher and working in active duty at NIS. In addition, he was said to have received a salary of 13.4 million from DPR between 2018 and 2019 and was hired by the Immigration Bureau.
ICPC further claims that, as a compensation officer for NIS, ASEKU facilitated the payment of 4.7 million guilds to seven people who are neither NIS employees nor their payroll. One of the charges showed that between October 2018 and October 2019, the total salary of N13,400,889.90 for the DPR employed by NIS was N13,400,889.90, thus committing offences under Article 19 of the Corruption Act and other related offences bills of 2000.
Aseku pleaded not guilty to all charges. His lawyer, Basil Hemba, told the court that another FCT High Court in Maitama granted the ASEKU, urging the court to uphold the existing bail clause. Justice Dogonyaro upheld the bail conditions set by Metama Court and entrusted the case to a hearing on April 29.
