The commander of the Ondo state of Nigerian police force proved that the three headless bodies found in a river in the Odigbo local government area did not come from the state.
The shocking discovery of the bodies floating between the ore and the Odigobo community has caused fear among local residents.
The body was found in the river on Sunday, prompting law enforcement agencies to notify immediately.
The way the bodies were located led to suspicion that they might have been victims of ritual killings before being abandoned in the river.
Police spokesman Olayinka Alayande confirmed the situation and noted that the incident had been reported to the local police station.
As of now, no one has stepped forward to confirm the deceased.
Alayande said, “I can confirm that three bodies were recovered from a river in Odigbo. The matter has been reported to the Ore Department and the DPO sent the detectives to the scene. The DPO also called out community leaders and other groups to help identify the bodies and directed anyone to provide information to visit the hospital. No one has been able to identify the bodies since then.
“These bodies are believed to have been brought into the river from other places. We do not think they are from this state. However, the river may have brought them to this place.”
Shileola, a young leader of local government, expressed shock at the incident and said, “I was shocked when I heard it. I rushed to the scene to try to identify the victim, but couldn’t find any clues.”
He suggested that the victims could be killed in another area because there were no reports of missing persons in the community.
