- Seunkum, folks, the disrespect for my father’s district has expired.
- In a five-minute video, he criticized fans of Grammy-winning artist Wizkid for comparing Wizkid to Fela.
- Seun’s reaction highlights ongoing tensions within the Afrobeat community over heritage and respect for influential artists.

Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has reacted strongly to the continued disrespect towards his late father, Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
In a five-minute video, Seun accused fans of Grammy-winning artiste Wizkid, popularly known as Wizkid FC, of repeatedly comparing Wizkid and Fela.
Seun said describing Wizkid as the “new Fela” was wrong and disrespectful as it downplayed the Afrobeat pioneer’s unique legacy, ideology and cultural influence. He emphasized that Fela’s influence cannot be replicated or transferred to any modern artist.
In the emotional video, Seun expresses his anger over what he believes are some fans deliberately trying to rewrite history by elevating Wizkid to the same level as his father. He accused them of trying to replace Fela’s image and importance.
In his words:
“Wizkid fc needs to keep Fela’s name out of their mouths. You people are trying to steal men’s images. You are trying to claim that your fake artist is the new Fela. Calling Wizkid the new Fela is an insult to Fela. Wizkid fc has the most !gn0 Rãt fanbase in the world.”
Meanwhile, Wizkid’s fans have responded to Seun’s claims, insisting that no one is actively promoting the idea that Wizkid is Fela’s replacement. Such comparisons are no longer common, they argue, and the conversation has long since ended.

@hintrovertt: “Most of these Wizkid fans are just kids and have no idea who Fela is and I blame social media for all this disrespect. Wizkid has never used his influence to speak out against bad governance. So where does this comparison come from? You all think Fela is just a musician. Even Wizkid himself will look at you like a fool because he wouldn’t dare disrespect Fela’s legacy.”
@001Xtasy: “This is not hate, this is history telling. Fela was more than music, he was movement, resistance, sacrifice. You can’t ‘inherit’ that legacy through charts and fashion. Wizkid is a global star in his own field, but Fela was a revolutionary era that cannot be replicated. Respect both and stop forcing comparisons.”
@ugosimbaaputago: “I have never heard Fela’s song anywhere so they feel like everyone should bow to him which I don’t understand”
