The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) has not yet made a decision on the leadership of the Labor Party after a recent Supreme Court ruling.
Several sources within the committee confirmed to Riot Thursday that INEC is still reviewing the court’s verdict.

Another official explained that the committee made a decision only after studying authenticated copies of the judgment.
“The committee needs to obtain a certified authentic copy of the Supreme Court’s judgment, please study it carefully to determine the intent of the court before making an informed decision,” the official said.
The Supreme Court overturned an earlier ruling from the Court of Appeal on April 4, 2025, which has recognized Julius Abure as the party’s state president.
The Supreme Court ruled that the Court of Appeal lacked jurisdiction over internal party matters.
However, the ruling led to a different interpretation, with Abure claiming that the Supreme Court did not remove him, while the LP caretaker committee led by Nenadi Usman argued that Abure had been removed. Meanwhile, faction leader Lamidi Apapa surfaced to seize the party’s leadership.

Abure’s press conference was a two-week period when supporters of Obi and Otti submitted a certified copy of the Supreme Court’s decision at a parallel meeting of the LP National Executive Committee in Abuja. Otti said the document resolved any confusion about the interpretation of the judgment.
