Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang described the recent wave of violence and killing in parts of the state as coordinating crime and asserted that the attack was a handicraft of conflict merchants rather than the result of the conflict between farmer Hurd.
theme “Plateau Experience”held in Abuja on Friday night, Mutfwang talked about the insecurity the state faced.
Recall that the gunmen launched an attack on the Manguno, Daffo and Josho communities in the Bocos local government area on April 2. The attack resulted in multiple deaths and destroyed homes and property worth millions of naira.
Mutfwang responded to the attack, saying: “I want to thank everyone here for supporting and honoring your presence in this event. We will not gently underestimate this performance of unity.”
He revealed that there were considerations to cancel the incident due to the security situation, but said the state chose to violate the agenda behind the violence. “We intend to suspend this activity due to the current security situation in the state, but we decided not to allow this situation to undermine the good things we must celebrate,” he said.
“I must say that the purpose of the enemy is to put the country in melancholy and mourning, but we will go beyond their intentions and not give them what they want,” Mutfwang added.
“For those who think the current situation is a peasant problem, let me stand out from this view; it is the product of organized crime for malicious factors that do not want peaceful rule in the state,” he said.
The governor assured the people of the plateau that the state government and security agencies are taking the necessary steps to prevent recurrence. He declared: “I want to assure the good people on the plateau that God will give us victory over these lawless people, and their end has come.”
Mutfwang also praised organizers of fashion and arts events to promote cultural, tourism and business prospects on the plateau.
Chuwang Pwajok, general manager of the Plateau Tourism Commission, spoke earlier, calling the state a “gold mine” of tourism potential and natural resources.
Miss Christabel Bentu spoke on behalf of the organizers, praising Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to the tourism sector and the government’s efforts to sustainability in the plateau.
VIPs attending the event included former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Minister of Women’s Affairs Pauline Tallen.
